Why am I writing this blog? It seems that after all the many years working as a designer, I might have actually developed opinions about the industry that I work in. As a result, those opinions need a place to live aside from the hollow space in my skull and this is as good a place as any.
I have been somewhat of a vagabond throughout my career, bouncing from one place to the next. Some would look at that as a bad thing. From my perspective, being stuck in a single job for a vast majority of my career meant career suicide, and I just didn’t want things to be the end, right when I was just getting started as a young college graduate. I have worked in a variety of companies throughout my life, from small startups (like IMVU) to large multi-national corporations (like Sage Software). They have all provided me with a perspective on things that I simply would not have gained had I stayed in a single spot for the past 10+ years of my life.
So I want to be clear that the words in this blog are purely my own opinion, honed over the many years of practicing my craft. No company I worked for has asked me to put down my thoughts. It is simply an outlet for me to comment on things that I experience; and with any luck, this will be engaging for you to read. But I can’t promise anything.
My hope is that not only other designers would follow along, but people outside the design field as well. There is a lot of things that go on in a design process that may not get the kind of spotlight that it deserves.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the things that I’m about to write. Some of it may be funny, some of it may not. But I hope that it will be enlightening. I have a lot of good things planned and I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you.
